I remember when my brother enrolled me as a child in martial arts and how uncertain I was at that time. I wondered if I had what it took to succeed and become a black belt. I was very shy and not so confident. Little did I know that beginning my martial arts journey would be one of the most profound experiences of my life!

When I was appointed chief instructor by Grandmaster Kwang Jo Choi, Founder of Choi Kwang Do, I made a commitment to serving and empowering the community of Kennesaw, Woodstock, and Acworth by teaching children and adults the confidence, leadership, and fitness skills that can only be achieved through martial arts.

WHAT IS CHOI KWANG DO

Choi Kwang Do is the style of martial arts practiced by Choi Kwang Do Martial Arts of Kennesaw students. Choi Kwang Do is considered to be the most effective martial arts system in the world. It uses natural, easy-to-learn, sequential movements that will enhance your health as you learn self-defense. It uses sequential movement to transfer natural energy from one body segment and allows muscle groups to work intricately together to produce the most effective and powerful movements.

The journey from White Belt to Black Belt is one of incremental learning and skill development, that students of any age and fitness level can embark on.

I love CKD to the death of me. I started back in June 2012 and in my first-class I almost literally passed out. Not knowing the Pil Seung spirit was already inside of me I did not give in...I did not quit....I did not break. My kids and I started about 7 months ago. We are always challenged, motivated and worked. We are also always treated with respect, kindness, and given positive motivation to keep pushing forward. I have been especially impressed with the instructors who work with the kids. This can be a hard group to control and focus on the best of days and at CKD, they are absolutely friendly. My kids can see their futures in their instructors' eyes. The adult program is equally strong with classes that push me forward and have taught me so much already. Do not be intimidated by the large building and assume that classes are huge and impersonal. Each instructor we work with gets to know us well!

The instructors are patient, friendly, and knowledgeable, and we felt comfortable there right away. At first, I expected the classes for kids to be so big, she'd feel lost in the crowd and not get as much feedback she might need, but they break into smaller groups and get individual attention. I love that the schedule has plenty of options, too, so it was easy to work the classes into our week. My daughter was hesitant to start CKD (we made her sign up primarily for the practice of setting goals, working hard, and then meeting those goals because she needed a challenge), but she's happy there now. She likes the instructors, has made friends, and she's learning a lot. Can't wait to see how she progresses over the next few years.
